Date:2023-11-15

On November 15th, a pivotal ceremony unfolded at Wuchang Shipbuilding, heralding the start of construction for the first in a new series of 9,200 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers by Shanghai SC-Stolt Shipping Co., Ltd. (referred to as "SC-Stolt").

Esteemed participants included Zhang Hua, SC-Stolt General Manager, Zheng Yijie, SC-Stolt Deputy General Manager, Wang Liang, Project Manager from the Wuhan Branch of the China Classification Society, and Chen Tao, Assistant General Manager of Wuchang Shipbuilding, alongside key members of the on-site supervisory team.

In a reflective address, Zhang Hua revisited the origins of the SC-Stolt and Wuchang Shipbuilding partnership, a collaboration dating back five years. He eloquently detailed the journey’s challenges and triumphs, highlighting the mutual growth and strengthening of both organizations. SC Shipping, he noted, has commissioned four vessels from Wuchang Shipbuilding, with three already contributing to its operational fleet. This year, SC-Stolt embarked on the construction of two additional vessels with Wuchang Shipbuilding, with this ceremony marking the commencement of the first. Zhang Hua then conveyed his firm belief that, under the combined efforts of both parties and with the backing of supervisory bodies and related organizations, the delivery of these two tankers will meet the highest standards of quality and timeliness.

Chen Tao, Assistant General Manager of Wuchang Shipbuilding, praised the seamless initiation of SC-Stolt's first 9,200 DWT tanker. He attributed this success to the unwavering dedication and robust support extended by all stakeholders in the project's early stages. Looking ahead, Chen pledged that Wuchang Shipbuilding would continue to uphold its principles of scientific management, quality-first philosophy, and a commitment to excellence, deeply rooted in its ethos of combining military-grade precision with civilian production. "This project is viewed as an opportunity to deepen the ties with SC-Stolt and strive for shared success and progress," said Chen.

The ceremonial commencement of construction was marked by Zheng Yijie, SC-Stolt Deputy General Manager, activating the start button. This action initiated the cutting of the first steel, symbolically launching the construction of this pioneering vessel.
